A single year. A year that everyone will remember and will be written about in the history books. The year that the world stopped, 2020. A full year after the height of the Coronavirus Pandemic, and one industry still manages to keep puffing along. That industry is Cannabis, and the state set for legalization is Florida. Life returns slightly more to normal as we see Cannabis Culture soar to new heights in the sunshine state with the resurgence of lifestyle events. The Slowdown of Cannabis
Unlike a lot of other industries, the Cannabis Community suffered very lightly during the times of Covid-19. One of the areas of the industry that was mainly impacted was found in grassroots efforts for legalization, especially in Florida. Recreational legislative agendas were grinded to a halt after funds had to be diverted to Coronavirus efforts.
A lot of medical marijuana backed efforts for recreational marijuana legislation were in the middle of collecting the necessary 766,200 signatures to be able to get onto the 2020 primary election ballot. Being a big election year with record turnouts, it was in high anticipation for this legislation to get passed. Unfortunately, due to world-altering circumstances, the efforts have been pushed further back to our present state of being as the grassroots efforts continue puffing forward.
Cannabis Culture Comes Alive
Within the past few months, we have seen a huge uptick in cannabis related events in Florida. Some of these events are more geared towards Cannabis Business, or Cannabiz, such as the Champs Industry Trade Show and Cannabis LAB (Law, Accounting, and Business) Conference and Expo. These events connect industry professionals throughout the state of Florida, and even different areas of the United States. This helps to advance the industry forward in a collective and collaborative culture.
Other events are a lot more about Cannabis Culture and freedom of the plant. Events such as Dab Day, Florida Cannabis Festival, and the Florida Marijuana and Psychedelic Expo connect patients and advocates alike. These types of organized festivals have really seen an increase with the push for legalization and continue to supply education and reference for the Cannabis Community.
Smoking Forward Toward the Future
So, as we have seen, even with everything going on in the world, the Cannabis Industry continues to grow at a rapid rate. As the Florida Medical Marijuana patient count nears 1,000,000 patients, the fight for recreational continues through massive petitioning efforts and an increase in cannabis related events. This time around, grassroots organizations are trying to obtain the now necessary 891,589 signatures to get legalization legislation onto the 2022 general election ballot.
